This variety of Dianthus is a “deltoides type”. What does it mean? Well, these varieties may live for several years. I once read one guy had them in the same spot for ten years or so. A very resistant perennial plant. It flowers extremely well the first year and may be used as an annual. It flowers only during two months, from mid or late spring to early summer. Eight inches tall. Here in this area is a hardy plant.
There are other varieties of dianthus. Some are biennials like “Sweet William”, others are tender perennial like D. chinensis or indian pink.
Last year I grew these dianthus, but I discarded them later on. I never knew what type they were. Only thing I know is they became unstoppable once they reached few weeks old. A very sturdy plant!
To be continued.
